Long Beach Marches in Memory of MLK
Martin Luther King Community Center holds ceremony and fundraiser.
The Long Beach MLK Center honored Civil Rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its annual march along Park Avenue on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday.
This year’s Grand Marshal was Tuskegee Airman Julius Freeman. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first group of African-American aviators who fought in World War II. They were the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Freeman was honored with a Congressional Gold medal in 2007.
Following the march, the MLK Center honored the life and legacy of Dr. King with its annual luncheon and fundraiser at the center, at 615 Riverside Blvd. The “Beyond the Dream” keynote speaker was Bob Law, a radio personality and local community activist.
