Hundreds Gather for Bobis Paddle-out Memorial
Family and friends of the Long Beach High School math teacher and surfer paid tribute to him at Laurelton beach Sunday.
A memorial and paddle-out were held Sunday evening in memory of Long Beach High School math teacher Danny Bobis.
Bobis and his wife, Rachel, were on a vacation in Indonesia in late July when he went missing after surfing a 10-foot wave, and his body was found four days later by a local fisherman 20 miles from where he was last seen.
Paddle-outs are conducted when a member of the surfing community has died.

"Everyone will get on their board and sit in a circle,” said Long Beach High School student Gina Badamo at Sunday’s ceremony at Laurelton Boulevard beach. "We're all just going to pray for Danny and hope that he's doing well up there."
In addition to teaching math, Bobis also took initiative in developing the Long Beach surfing community.
