'Mini Riot' Breaks Out in Long Beach

Nassau County police called in for aid.

The Nassau County Police Department reported a "mini riot" in Long Beach on Memorial Day.

According to an unconfirmed police bulletin that Patch received at 6:12 p.m., a large crowd formed at East Park Avenue and Riverside Boulevard and nine NCPD units were called to the city to assist Long Beach Police with what the county police described as a "mini riot." 

Meanwhile, Patch witnessed a brawl on the beach at Riverside Boulevard at about 5:45 p.m. Within about a minute, lifeguards were on the scene to break up the brawl, followed soon after by Long Beach police.

Inspector Bruce Meyer, the public information officer at the Long Beach Police Department, was unavailable to comment Monday evening.

"I don't know if any arrests were made," an NCPD public information office said. "It's Long Beach's case. We were just like mutual aid for them."
