Police: Tenant Poured Tar at Shore Road Building

Estimated to have cause about $13,000 in damages.

Jeffrey Navarre, 50, of Long Beach was arrested and charged with committing numerous acts of criminal mischief at his apartment building on Shore Road.

According to Det. Lieutenant James Canner, commanding officer of the Long Beach Police Department’s Detective Division, Navarre poured the contents of two cans of asphalt coating tar through the lobby, and poured roofing sealant tar on the floor, hallways, stairways, carpets, awning and façade of the building, between November 2010 and March 2011.

“The damage to the premise was extensive, estimated at approximately $13,000,” Canner said.

“The investigation was intensive and assiduous,” he noted. “A tremendous amount of investigative work was required, utilizing technological and investigative methods.”

Navarre was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, which are D felonies. He was arraigned in Long Beach City Court by Judge Roy Tepper and remanded to the Nassau County Correctional Facility.
