Some Long Beachers call it the best kept secrete in the city.

The St. James of Jerusalem Episcopal Church similarly bills its garden as “one of the hidden treasures of Long Beach.”

Obscured by tall bushes from the corner of West Penn Street and Magnolia Boulevard, the green is officially called Garden of Gesthemane Columbarium, and is a quiet retreat with shade trees, benches, figurines, statuettes, birdhouses and a birdbath. At the center of the garden is a round granite Columbarium.

The garden is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. all year.

A columbarium is a niche for cremated remains, in case you wondered.
