Supporters Gather at Vigil for Daniel Bobis

Hundreds filed onto the boardwalk Sunday to hope for a safe return of the beloved resident and local teacher.

Daniel Bobis is clearly a cherished institution in the Long Beach community.

Family members, friends and other local residents gathered on the Laurelton Boulevard boardwalk on Sunday evening to come together and hope for a safe return of the Bobis, the esteemed teacher, surfer and Long Beach resident, at a candlelight vigil.

Bobis went missing Sunday morning in Sumatra, local time, while surfing. His surfboard was recovered on the coast of the Indonesian island, but he has not been found. He was vacationing with his wife, Rachel, during their summer break from teaching. According to friends, search efforts have been minimal so far because of the remote nature of the area.

Christopher Fry, a close friend of Bobis’, previously told Patch that there is a fund set up on Paypal to help out the Bobis family as they search for Daniel in Sumatra. Those who wish to donate can go to Paypal.com and give money to “DannyBobisFund@Gmail.com." All donations will go directly towards Bobis' family.

“It will go to try to get a helicopter and support anyone else involved in the search,” he said.
