This guy has a resume , All you zionist lovers and racists
Eddie April 16, 2014 at 08:39 AM
Let's see... If this guy was a Christian who protested outside abortion clinics and spoke on Second Read MoreAmendment rights, the hypocrites running this mess would drum him out of town. The school board should be ashamed of the damage this tool will do to Long Beach's kids.

I did not comment on anything I could not confirm, and I don’t think it's appropriate to doRead Moreso . We don't even know the source of that "resume." It implies he worked in countries all around the world, though not exactly what he did. And who knows what is just "fluff." I wasn't trying to comment directly on the man's experience so much as criticize our local governments for withholding important information from us. Or worse, our officials may not have even taken the time to "google" Stroud to see what, if anything, came back. So, either they didn't do this half-hour of research or they selectively gave us facts, just regurgitating what that "resume" said. How did this man become Principal so fast? The same way iStar was handed the Superblock after 30 years of debate. It seems all major decisions are made "behind the scenes."

What a pity that the grant wasn't used to cut down the proposed tax increase on these poor LongRead MoreBeac h families who were flooded out. Nope, the district's raising your taxes again. This time figure about $200.

Please be specific. If you're talking about Joe Kellard I think you are completely off the railsRead Moreon this. I never met the man except via emails. He jumped through hoops to be impartial/middle of the road. My own posts are currently anti dem because they currently control city hall. I have stomped all over Harvey W several times, but I defended him on the beach disaster rising from hurricane Sandy. Harvey stood solidly for the Pete King/US Army Corps of Engineers plan that would have saved LB from much of the damage. I also have hammered the republican city council who shot down that plan at the behest of a noisy group of out of town surfers who packed a single council meeting. I'm a registered republican only because I registered as such because a friend starting out in republican politics asked me to do so. I think that all of this tea party crap is destroying the GOP as is the "conservative" neo nazi rubbish that accompanies the tea party. Joe Kellard was as straight as an arrow and is missed.

@lear jet, eddie- I know the three of us have very different political views, but I think we allRead Morewan t what is best for our island. The old JK Patch actually did some investigative reporting, which we'll never see again. This Patch is computer-generated and aims at a young demographic. Many of the "articles" are just pasted in blogs, unchecked and unverified info. All they want is articles with "key words" which encourage click-through revenue. An example is today's "The War on Women Marches Onward." This is actually written by a guy on an anti-pit bull campaign, from Waltham MA. Eddie, I'd guess all 3 of us are over 50. On the web and on TV, we are not the targeted audience any more. The ads are served up by tracking companies like ATWOLA, owned by AOL. The choice of ads is from what sites you've visited before and what articles you click on today. I've also found that I get a completely different "front page" depending on which web browser I use, Internet Explorer or Firefox. Honestly, I think political party influence doesn't control Patch content. It's just money, big money. Content is meaningless unless it contains terms that draw clicks. As for political parties, the past year has made me lose faith in ALL of them, they're just a shill for the money behind them. Realtors own Long Beach, not the Dems. (Along with a few other special interests.) Our Elections are pretty much like the old Soviet Union's. "My" Dems expected me to vote for criminal Tom Suozzi for County Exec??? They are "my" Dems no more. Urban planning in our area is just run according to the old maxim "money talks, nobody walks." ......... this is way off topic, but the background of the new Principal really needs to be vetted. I'm trying to figure out how to put it into words.

Lear, I have the highest regards for Joe Kellard. It was his former boss to whom I referred. IRead Moreagr ee that Joe truly tried to be an impartial journalist, and I feel he did a great job. What a pity to see him leave Patch. You know Patch fired all these guys with a conference call, right? http://consumerist.com/2014/02/03/its-nothing-personal-hundreds-of-patch-employees-laid-off-during-conference-call/

Mebythesea, thank you for your response, we don't want to wait for the city and their overpricedRead Morebul khead either, it time for us to move on...we have the same, deck (covers practically our whole yard) and shed to remove, And house as well, hope everything goes well for you, thank you for their number! :)

Hi again, Gigi. We have NO experience with any of this! We bought our house on the bay in 2010 butRead Moreh ad temporary tenants in there until Sandy. Sandy changed our moving in plans dramatically though we are now finally rebuilding. I've been told that it's good to try to get a company that's working on a dock because they've got the barge already in the water and you can get faster service. Apparently, some companies don't like to bring their barge out for only one job. I have no idea if that's true or not. Eddie might know better about all of this.
Eddie April 16, 2014 at 05:41 PM
Gigi, buying bulkheading is like negotiating any other type of improvement. There are manyRead Moredifferen t ways to do the job and many choices of materials. Everything has a price. It would pay to consult with someone, like an engineer or dockbuilder, who doesn't have a financial interest in the job so you can educate yourself on what is available, what the benefits of different types of bulkhead and what pricing to expect. Naturally something that will last a long time will cost more money. You don't want to pay high prices for low quality stuff. If an engineer designed the job, he would specify exactly what you wanted in a set of specifications that you could give to different contractors. Then you would be assured of comparing "apples with apples". There's lots of shoddy work out there, and a poorly constructed job won't list seven years. Unfortunately it's a builders' market now and prices are very high. Know exactly what you want and compare prices. And don't hesitate to research, learn and get professional assistance if you need it. But don't start with the City. They fired all their engineers and replaced them with political hacks who wouldn't know a bulkhead from a shipping crate.
