Go Greenwich! Love it, more local new coverage in Patch. We could have a tote bag day like this inRead MoreL ong Beach, except there's hardly any stores left to buy anything. (... Except booze and sushi, and they don't travel well.)

Go Peabody! Thanks again to the editors for keeping us up to date on local news, even it's theRead Morewrong locale. I hope they follow up with a poll on who's our favorite player on the team.

No matter whats his story ,the military police have no right to kill, brendan must be retired cop

Patrick; the guy could have just cooperated instead of resisting and he would be alive today. Not Read Moresaying it's right but the guy had a major role in the situation going bad.

the cops and the emt crew should be locked up. all they had to do was confiscate his illegalRead Moremerchan dise and give him a desk appearance ticket.

Check her property records at City Hall- get her insurance company name and call them. Let themRead Moreknow of the illegal occupancy in the basement and the new classification of a rental house- this will cause a review and increase in insurance.
Jack July 21, 2014 at 10:14 PM
P.S. let the tax man know about the illegal income- also a change in the tax /mortgage deuctionsRead Morewil l cause an increas of income taxes.
Eddie July 22, 2014 at 07:54 AM
Misty, you can contact the vacation Website (perhaps Homeaway.com) and inform them of the illegalRead Morena ture of this woman's rentals. They might take them down. If you wish to employ gorilla tactics, and the Building Department can't get in to inspect the place, there's always the IRS Whistleblower Program. (http://www.irs.gov/uac/Whistleblower-Office-At-a-Glance) You turn her in, she gets audited and you receive 20%-30% of what they recover.

I appreciate your info about North Shore/ LIJ. I consider them the worst example of turning healthRead Morec are into a business. They've bought small local hospitals (like Glen Cove) just to close them, or rip off their profitable services, or use them as a dumping ground. HIP has done the same thing in their service areas. And South Nassau is now doing that to us in Long Beach. Profits before patients. As lame as the care at LBMC could be, they would care for any patient regardless of ability to pay. Obviously they failed, as did greater places like St Vincent's and LICH. They obviously needed better management, but all those places were trying to serve the needs of their communities. Please keep us updated on what's happening on Long Island. I know at Jamaica, 1199 put off the strike vote for a couple of weeks.
Bob West July 17, 2014 at 01:30 AM
Sorry, I still can't respect South Nassau for taking our FEMA money and giving us a trailer, anyRead Moremor e than you would probably respect a strike-breaker. Yeah, it's an abstract ethical thing for me, but I think ethics should still play a part in our health care decisions. Taking our hospital rather than fixing it is a crime, and I can't praise it as an acceptable solution as you seem to.
nurseshelly July 17, 2014 at 10:11 AM
I agree with you I would not respect a strike breaker. I come from a long line of union workers who Read Morefought for what we consider entitlements today. I also agree that a trailer is not an acceptable solution if money was secured to provide better. I'm only trying to emphasize that if a strike occurs at LIJ North Shore Hospitals the wait time at non-union hospitals for emergent care will be totally out of control with possibly devastating results. A few weeks ago I fell off my bicycle and had some nasty skin abrasions. I went to one of the new walk in clinics on a Saturday and they were closed at 5pm The trailer would have been a better option than going home and treating my wounds Had I gone to SNCH ER my injuries would be classified as non-emergent and I probably would still be there!! And yes I have a strong sense of ethics as you seem to have but ethics and health care decisions in todays times are basically non-existent. It's all about the large corporations and health care facility owners making the big money at the expense of their health care clients and workers.

It would help if you explained your situation in coherent sentences. If you did work without aRead Moreperm it and get caught, you must get the permits after-the-fact. You will pay a punitive rate of three times the regular permit fees. Depending on the craft, you'll have to hire a new plumber or electrician to inspect, "legalize" and repair the work done by the original contractor at your expense. You can't get a C of O until the original permits are issued, inspected and closed.

I used to have the maytag stackable. Steve always did the repairs, which was about 3 times in 17Read Moreye ars. I always trusted him and the services he provided.

The devil's in the details. You didn't post anything here. Somehow you replied to an old postRead Morethat's been dormant since March. If you misplace any more posts, check your "profile" to see where they went. Just click on your own screen name and you'll see you posted in a thread from March 20 called "what happened with the Sandy Tax Assessment relief checks ?" Since that's so old, your comments probably won't show up on the "front page." Since you wrote quite a bit, you might want to copy and paste it someplace else. From what I can see, no one replied to you there. Important topic, good luck.

Erica July 18, 2014 at 07:40 PM
Why call the shelter? Cats usually get put to sleep if not adopted quickly. Maybe some lovingRead Morepers on will adopt him, or maybe he is lost and his owner will recognize the picture.

I should have made the title the Road Mind Fields Of LB. I havent been to the west side but I knowRead Moret he side streets on the East side are a disgrace. I'm sorry to say they did a great job with the Boardwalk but really. The Beach goers come off the LIRR and walk down on Edwards the sidewalks are a mess the curbs are broken and theres potential lawsuits just waiting for someone to fall. We have a better stores bars and shops now than 20 yrs ago City of Long Beach we have to drive on these damaged streets. They paved LB Blvd years ago and added some nice decor to the Streets huh what. Recently they cut down the Dinosaur Trees & its starting to look like Fla no shade. I agree Riverside is probably on the top of the list but go driving around and you'll see pot holes messed with bad patch work coming apart that not only can do damage to a car but can create a auto accident when driving around these monsters. LB just Re Pave the entire Street.
anonymous July 15, 2014 at 05:51 AM
The streets in the West End are just as bad. Indiana between Beech and West Park might as well beRead Moredi rt. Kentucky south of Beech is embarrassing. And Connecticut between Beech and West Park has never actually been paved...it's just a collection of cement blocks. As I keep saying...Liberals love to bloviate about how they need our tax money to support infrastructure but when you look at the actual infrastructure it's a disaster.
Lido resident July 20, 2014 at 09:26 AM
The downside of a well paved smooth road is people drive faster on them. You don't want yourRead Morestreet filled with potholes, but you may not want it perfectly paved either.
