Great to see the input and theme of hope for a quick rebuilding effort to get the boardwalk back up…Read More and running again. As for the boardwalk material itself, most haven't seen a precast concrete system with individual boards (treads) that actually looks like a traditional wood boardwalk. Check out www.permatrak.com The product would be integrally colored, textured to look like wood, no protruding nails, no annual maintenance headaches, etc.

I am no hydrologist or coastal scientist but it just seems to me that we could easily put some kind…Read More of a seawall hidden inside the dunes and under the boardwalk as a backup. How hard could it really be to just put in a wall of sheet pile, be it steel or composite, and cover it up with the dunes? It is a backup plan that is all. I realize there are issues with this idea regarding vehicle access to beach, would it cover the whole island, Etc. and it will do nothing to stop water from the bay, but as has been stated here before by many people just piling up sand isn’t going to do it in the future.

If the first section to be rebuilt starts on Edwards there should an uproar, this year the boardwalk is for the residents not the tourists. Start the rebuilding on New York avenue and Neptune Ave and finish joining the two on Edwards. Hopefully by Memorial Day.

As residents we know how a completed boardwalk by Memorial would give us hope of thing returning to…Read More normal. The problem is the elected officials don't seem to have the same agenda. If you take parts of the Jersey Shore and follow the rebuilding of their boardwalks they are months ahead of us. They already rebuilding with men on their knees hammering a new boardwalk together, while we hold town meetings for the average citizen who has no clue except to say they don't want wood. The boards were taken down on New York ave three weeks ago, a plans should have been in place to start rebuilding that day. It's now February and this week there will be more meeting with residents. And then a council meeting to discuss the findings. You hired a company to mange the rebuilding of the boardwalk. Hopefully there was a stipulation in the contract that says it must be up by Memorial Day it's over 100 days now since hurricane sandy, it's time for the rebuilding to start, it will be march 1st before you know it and I just do t see any progress anytime soon. Start the rebuilding now and cut the 10 point plan Dow to a two point plan. 1 START. 2. Completed

Your message is clear, the services you are providing cannot be replaced, and it is your decision to make on which businesses you decide to help and in which order. Anyone who does not agree with your choices has this gift known as freedom to start their own organization and help those who they feel are most deserving. Imagine that..... groups of people gathering together to help one another rather than putting each other down in a time of need. What a world we would live in if someone would just do that. Oh wait.... the Project Pay It Forward already did! Your are the people who inspire others to return to Long Beach and rebuild. Paul give up the damn pre roof issue-do you honestly believe that Dr. Stanger did not/would not have…Read More sustained any damage to his building as a result of the hurricane if he didn't have the pre existing contractor/roof problem? Take a look at the other two businesses next door-they had over 3 feet of water flood their buildings and had to rip everything out. So why can't you jsut accept that even if people knew of some pre issue, that money that was raised for Project 1 went to help fix damages caused to Dr. Stanger as a result of the hurricane itself.

Resident , both the Skudins and my surfing school both pay the city on LB a fee to use the beach, we…Read More must have full insurance, liability and workmen's comp, we bid on our beaches four years ago and we are going into the last year of our contract, we pay taxes and also pay the city a sanitation fee as well and both of our schools clean the beach and try to maintain a safe area for new students, my school surf2live must share a beach with surfers and the skudins have a beach to themselves until 1 pm, we both are respectful to our city and encourage surfers of all ages the chance to learn to surf.
I have been providing this service for over 20 years and love teaching, we both are certified by NSSIA and i am a certified professional surfing coach as well .

The cost to completely replicate the type of concrete substructure LB had would easily be 4x that amount. LB is firtunate that the substructure survived. that said there are still some issues.....

Don't we have to know what dunes or other protective barrier will be in place before the boardwalk…Read More design is decided? The City Council chose not to build the dunes in the past, in part, because they would block the view from the boardwalk. I want some protection in place against future stiorms first and then a boardwalk.

Years ago the boardwalk was much like Atlantic City's with a tawdry atmosphere. Then it went to the opposite extreme. Hopefully we can get some tastefully appointed restaurants, snack bars and such. Maybe even A pl ace where you can get a beer.

As a consequence i don't know what the support system would look like for concrete decking.

This is virtually impossible of course. The way it was getting though a good argument could be made that the entire boardwalk constituted one big dangerous condition. Now it's all academic.

The old boardwalk was a…Read More disaster with popped up boards all over the place, partially made that way by inept, lazy crews who didn't keep up with things. I know people who got seriously injured jogging on it and refused to go there anymore.
Either use some modern form of concrete, composite or better wood fastened by screws not nails but now is the time to do it right. What are the odds for that? TILB after all. Let's blame the surfers. Snoopy for city council.

Perhaps that has something to do with the asking price? Maybe the landlord would like to have a little money left over after he pays his taxes?
