I always loved the Sycamores trees that lined all the streets of Long Beach and how beautiful they are to sit under, provide shade as you walked the sidewalks or rode your bike in the street, they always provided shade.
Many have been replaced along Park Avenue due to a disease that is killing them there and everywhere else too. What is being done to save the trees? I see many, many naked trees, broken branches and a city becoming void of street trees -- the basic beauty of a community.
Trees provide healthy air, shade, they conserve energy, help with flooding and increase property values.
What is being done in Long Beach today with a tree trimming program to prolong the life of what exists and replacing what is dead?
Many of the trees can be cut back at the tops and prolong the life for several years -- just watch them sprout new leaves. This is being done in some communities in California that have the same American Sycamore Tree issues.
