Cliff Skudin, a popular Long Beach surfer, received a certificate of recognition from the City Council for his heroic, lifesaving rescue of three teenagers who were in distress near the Monroe Boulevard jetty. After charging into the ocean with his surfboard and saving the first victim who was approximately 50 yards out, Cliff swam out an additional 50 yards, rescuing two others whom he heard yelling for help.
Nick Oricchio received a certificate of recognition from the City Council, celebrating his 50 years in Long Beach. Nick, who grew up in Italy, worked as a barber’s apprentice before moving to the United States in 1962 at age 20, settling in Long Beach where his sister Teresa lived. Through family, he found work at Majestic Barber, and never left, buying the shop in 1982. A popular and beloved member of the community, “Nick the Barber” is part of the fabric of our great city.
