Olivia Moriarty, a Long Beach middle school student (12 years old) qualified and rode in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) National Finals Horse Show. The horse show is being held at the Coliseum at New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse NY. To qualify, Olivia came in 3rd place in the IEA Zone Finals Horse Show for Intermediate level middle school aged kids. The Zone Show included all middle school and high school children in NY, PA, CT and NJ.
Olivia participates in the IEA through her team called Metropolitan Equestrian Team (MET) out of Jamaica Bay Riding Academy in Brooklyn NY. This was MET’s second year in the competition and they fared well—coming in third place in the Zone Finals. Their coach, Jane DaCosta, has put her heart and soul into instructing these children and has greatly improved their riding abilities and sportsmanship. Olivia is one of the youngest riders on the team.
