Bedtime and Books

All over Long Beach, West School students in kindergarten through second grade climbed into their pajamas and headed to an evening of reading fun with their parents at West School’s annual Bedtime and Books. While students read books and did projects with their teachers, parents attended a workshop to help them reinforce Common Core reading skills at home. The workshop gave parents valuable tips about how make shared reading time more valuable by asking text-dependent questions to help their children gain a deeper understanding of the text.

“The goal of the evening is to make family reading fun, but also to provide tangible tools for parents to use to reinforce the reading skills their children are learning at school,” said Principal Sandra Schneider.
