Heroin take 2 Long Beach Lives

It's sad that Patch no longer reports local news.  Two of Long Beach's own died this week from what appears to be heroin overdoses.  Before the summer season brings this junk to the West End bars, we have to get the Nassau County police involved.  You heard it here first.

I also don't like this new patch and spend my local time at seabythecity.com It's only Long Beach local and imho has always been a better publication.
Trying to Make Sense February 20, 2014 at 09:45 AM
Really, why even call this thing "Long Beach" Patch? What's the point of making believe that this generic repeat of yesterday's newspaper has any interest in providing LB with local interest news? Editors, is this it?

really crummy since Joe Kellard left.
Jonathan Kaplan February 20, 2014 at 01:55 PM
Is there any Long Beach news here anymore? Why is it even called Long Beach Patch just call it Nassau Patch. This is lame. Bring back Joe and the Long Beach Patch.

www.seabythecity.com Try it; it's very informative insofar as local events and news are concerned.
Bob West February 20, 2014 at 03:41 PM
There's still local news, except it's all provided by *us.* This is no quirk in the evolution of Patch. This is right out of AOL's playbook. In the early days of the web, AOL was moderated largely by unpaid "Community Leaders." These folks started out as volunteers getting some free time online. But slowly the paid folks dwindled and they were left holding the ball for their "communities." Some later sued AOL for easing (tricking?) them into this new role. My sister did this for years. I thought she was nuts but she thought she was doing a good thing. Then a similar thing happened with the Huffington Post. It started as an aggregator of unpaid bloggers, who really believed in their cause until Huffington sold out to AOL for $315 million. We're writing for Patch, but they're selling ads. So I agree with the above about seabythecity, big contrast between the two. Sorry to get off topic. Re AOL- http://www.cjr.org/the_news_frontier/aol_settled_with_unpaid_volunt.php?page=all

Sea by the City is a great blog if you can see through the liberal Democrat bent.
Ed12345 February 20, 2014 at 09:07 PM
Eddie and everyone else that commented: ARE YOU F***ING SERIOUS?! TWO PEOPLE DIED BUT YOU ARE FIGHTING OVER WHAT IS A BETTER NEWS WEBSITE?! GET THE F**K OUT OF LB, TWO OF OUR OWN JUST DIED AND THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE FIGHTING OVER?!
Bob West February 21, 2014 at 05:38 AM
@ ed1234 - you're absolutely right, the human tragedy is worse than any words we can write here. But this has taught me that I no longer can depend on Patch for keeping me informed about tragedies like this. I would not have known this happened at all if not for a neighbor Eddie reporting it on his own here. The City fluffed over the tragedy. We who live here need to know these things. The worst is to *think* we know what's going on when we don’t. Keeping us "dumb" from news keeps us from dealing with tragedies like this. Over the past 20 years we've lost every source of local news on Long Island. I remember a couple of years ago there was a rash of break-ins in the West End and EAB. The only way I found out about it was by neighbors hanging up warning letters on lamp posts and in delis. In order to make intelligent decisions, protect our own, and make sure more tragedies may be avoided, we need to know about them first. I think that's the motivation of everyone who posted here.
Eddie February 21, 2014 at 07:11 AM
Bob, you're not sounding like a Democrat any more.
Ed12345 February 21, 2014 at 09:47 AM
Seriously shut up about the patch, if you wanna fight over if it is good or bad then do it somewhere else, someone died and this is what you are fighting over...how do you a******s complain about longbeach when clearly you are the problem
Denise Giardello February 21, 2014 at 10:14 AM
There IS another rash of break ins in the West End!!! I posted we were burglarized a couple weeks ago. Well- now a neighbor was ALSO burglarized! We were burglarized before the New Year, they totally cleaned us out-they cleaned her out as well. Even took all her clothes, just like they did to me. Did you find out about it? No. When I posted it I got such negative feedback I deleted my post. I was accused of having a drug dealer boyfriend who did it, and the comments made were so ridiculous I just let it go. All I had wanted to do was inform Long Beach residents there is more going on in LB than we are being told. I was reaching out to see if anyone had seen anything or heard anything. They had to be here a long time to remove almost an entire contents of a home. What did I get from you "Patch people"? I got trashed by almost everyone who responded. Not one person offered advice, just found ways to accuse me, that somehow I was involved or lying. Yes, blame the victim. Well, now , yet another resident lost everything she had . We both lost everything to Sandy. I lost my home and everything I owned. In December we had just moved into yet another temporary apartment, around the corner from our demolished home. For one year I bought all new things and was saving them for when we could finally go home-and they took everything. When I say everything -I mean even groceries and all of our clothes!! They left us with nothing. I think that is what they want to do. They want to leave you devastated. She had raised her home , repaired the damage, and had finally bought new furniture and was almost ready to finally move back in. They actually went up a ladder on the side of her home and brought everything out- in the cold, in the snow, in the dark of night. Even posting this I am sure I will get trashed by you regular ' Patch People" for some reason or another. The police are WORTHLESS. I gave the detective names of people to question, as they are home all day and may have seen something. I personally spoke to these neighbors, the police never even contacted them. The detective told me that the school video was worthless, he didn't even look at it. I am in the process of acquiring it myself. I loved this town. I have been here since I was a child. I thought I would be a Long Beach Lifer. But not so sure any more. Nothing was done, and I am sure more burglaries will occur the way they did a few years ago. Our family lost thousands of dollars worth of items. Yes, it was just stuff, I get that, but it was a symbol of us moving forward and rebuilding our lives. Oh yeah, my burglary occurred the same time the signs went missing, so that was more important.....

@ Denise- I understand your story, but it is mis-placed here in this topic. Maybe start another topic to get that news out. This is about some horrible deaths from heroin, and how that's being ignored. To continue your story here would only further dilute the importance of the death of our neighbors even more. Thanks.

Denise is a kook. She got lots of advice here and good advice, but she must have been too busy to follow any of it. Did she go to NCPD Headquarters in Garden City and talk to the Burglary Unit? She was too busy. Did she meet with the NC District Attorney's office and file a complaint against the LBPD? She was too busy. Another Long Beach kook.
Penquin February 21, 2014 at 09:52 PM
Denise - I remember you from around Christmas when you had just moved in, went on vacation and had your house robbed. And I totally agree with all your points - we spoke on LBMTY or Sea by the City as well. I hope all is well with you and your family. Don't listen to these jerks.
Ed12345 February 22, 2014 at 06:00 PM
i swear to god if one more person talks about anything other than the heroin problem or these two people on this page i am officially convinced that certain users of the lb patch are the problem with lb
Hamburger February 23, 2014 at 09:18 AM
Denise, you have to realize that we are all victims here. Victims of love.

Ed12345 February 23, 2014 at 10:11 AM

You all got what you wanted, Long Beach is going back to the good old days. Remember when drugs were everywhere and Long Beach was no better then far rockaway. The good old days.
Denise Giardello February 26, 2014 at 10:02 AM
Yes JV, I am a kook. A woman with a Master's Degree , I am a kook. I got advice here?? HAHAHAHA. I got trashed. People telling me NC police handle burglaries in Long Beach, NO, they do NOT. Long Beach uses the NC crime lab, that is about it. Or uses NC PD when they have large cases, and need extra help. How do you know I didnt do any follow up? Because I didnt post it here??? How do you know I didnt contact NCPD??? Some things are better left unsaid. Bob West, you are correct, maybe that post didnt belong here. But when you had mentioned about the rash of burglaries a few years ago, and how Long Beach hides everything I wanted to add about the burglaries here. My point was- Long Beach hides so much from the public. I think its because of the tourist industry. They dont want the public to know about the murders, the drug use here, the rash of burglaries, etc. It was more important here to build a boardwalk than to fix our fire hydrants and sewers. Do not get me wrong , I love the boardwalk, but we needed to set priorities . Tourists. It is all for the tourists. Everything kept under the rug. Dont want to spook the tourists. As for the topic, yes, it is terrible that two people died from drugs. Did it make the Herald? The tribune? Did it make News12? To be honest, if it wasnt for the Patch I would NOT have even known about the two drug overdoses. I saw the post here. Were they kids? I do not know anything about the people who died, who they were, or if I even knew them. Every untimely death is tragic. So many kids in High School are bragging about using drugs. My daughter hears them talk about using drugs in class. Drugs are everywhere. Years ago I used to see drug deals being made right on Beech Street . I don't see that anymore, maybe I am not as observant as I used to be? WHere are the kids getting the drugs? When I was in High School sellers used to actually come to the school, or were students. They were students or a little older than students and never were caught on school grounds, as they blended in. Now with the new ID cards only students can be on school grounds. BUt that wont stop students from selling drugs to other students. You cant stop the sellers. People will find a way to sell drugs, and people will find a way to buy them. Take away one drug and people will use another. From what I read Heroin is making a come back. That is a shame. But what can we do about it? If we get NCPD involved will that solve the problem?
Eddie February 26, 2014 at 01:37 PM
Denise Giardello welcome to the page were ignorant bullies think they have a little power in their otherwise powerless little lives so they trash their neighbors. I guess you did not realize that is really what the Long Beach patch is. Did you believe it was a community blog for the sharing of information or a place of reasonable discussion? Maybe you though your neighbors would treat you with respect?
