#90—Hunt For a Golden Egg at the Rec

Hop on over to the Long Beach Recreation fields for a meet-and-greet with the Easter Bunny at the 50th Annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down … the Long Beach Recreation Center fields.

We know, that doesn’t exactly rhyme, but it’s our way of letting you know that the Annual Easter Egg Hunt is coming and that it’s #90 of Patch's 100 Things To Do In Long Beach series.

If you’ve got children ages 3 to 9, then head over to the Rec fields, located next to the Ice Arena between Magnolia and National Boulevards, on April 16 for the 50th anniversary of this city event.

The host, the Recreation Center, will scatter thousands of plastic eggs across the fields and the children will search for them in age-appropriate increments. A golden egg will also be added to mark the milestone anniversary, and the child who finds it will receive a giant Easter basket — one of the 25 prizes that will be handed out on Saturday.

The hunt kicks off at 10 a.m. for children ages 3 and under, and resumes every half hour for the next age group:

  • 8- and 9-year-olds 12:30 p.m.

"We plan on going through 5,000 to 6,000 plastic eggs this year, which children can take home with them," said Recreation Leader Maureen Walsh.

Baskin Robbins representatives will hand the children coupons for free ice cream, and two Easter Bunnies will hop around the field to say hello and pose for pictures.

So practice your pick up, bring a basket and hop on over to Rec fields, and if you find that golden egg tell them the Patch sent you.

Hippity, Hoppity, Happy Easter Day!

Cost: Free

Season: Spring

Notes: In the event of inclement weather, the Easter Egg Hunt will be rescheduled to April 17.
