#97— There's a Candy-Craver's Dream in Long Beach

Just when you thought your post-Valentine's Day chocolate-eating frenzy was over, Patch highlights a homemade candy sensation on West Park Avenue.

Ann Brady sells seashells by the seashore.

Now, before you say that sentence three times fast and take it literally, do note that Brady's seashells are made of chocolate and her Willy Wonka-type store, Sweets For Shore, at 68 W. Park Ave., is some five blocks from where ocean meets beach.

But that’s exactly why we’ve picked Sweets For Shore to be #97 in our countdown series 100 Things To Do In Long Beach.

Brady has pleased patrons with her homemade chocolate and specialty items, such as her chocolate-covered pretzel pizza, since 2002. And with Valentine's Day delights now on sale at half price, it's the perfect time to stop by and sample the store’s signature cocoa confections.

Featuring 16 varieties of homemade fudge, 12 types of chocolate-covered pretzels, including one covered in Reese's pieces, and a sugar-free counter made especially for diabetics, Sweets For Shore offers something for everyone.

And if chocolate isn't your thing, Brady sells old-fashioned candy that customers likely indulged in childhood, including Mallo Cups, Turkish Taffy and Blackjack and Clove bubblegum, as well as Sugar Daddy, Pez dispensers and, yes, Wonka bars. The store also sells Long Beach frames, magnets and t-shirts and other souvenir items.

No matter what your chocolate, candy or souvenir pleasure, this store will captivate your sweet-tooth appetite and senses the moment you walk through its doors.
