Aging in Place Seminar Set for Wednesday

As any caregiver knows, growing older presents new challenges. Still, there are resources that can help

Sen. Kemp Hannon, R-Garden City, is inviting residents in the Sixth Senatorial District to attend his “Aging In Place” seminar at the Farmingdale Public Library (116 Merritts Road, Farmingdale) on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.

“No matter how hard we try to avoid it, every person has to address the issue of independent living as they undergo the aging process,” Hannon said. “The growing awareness of the benefits of staying in your home as long as possible are widely recognized.”

“Here in New York, the population aged 65 and over is projected to be almost 3 million, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,” he added. “That is a steady increase, expected to continue, and we are working very hard to offer support services and information to help you stay in your home as long as possible.”

Speakers will address how to afford aging at home and will cover topics such as medicaid planning, veterans benefits, health care reimbursement and recovery, senior housing, managed long-term home health care programs, and more.  Attendees will learn how to achieve safe and functional mobility, maintain and enhance your dwelling to reduce the risk of falls, increase maneuverability, and how to plan financially so you can remain in your home as long as possible.
