Baby Great White Caught Off Rockaway Beach
Sharks have been found in waters off Long Island's south shore.

A Breezy Point man reeled in a not-so-great surprise on a weekend fishing trip off nearby Rockaway Beach.
Steve Fernandez, 29, caught a 10-foot-long, baby great white shark on Sunday just a mile off the shores of 116th Street in Rockaway Beach, reported New York Observer.

"We put our hook in the water, got it next to the boat and that’s when we realized it was a great white,” Fernandez told NY Post, adding that he and his friends were "close enough that we could still see the colors of the bathing suits of the people on the beach."
Fernandez, a longtime fisherman, said there was "no mistaking" the little monster was a great white, saying it was basically a miniature version of the shark you see in the movie ‘Jaws,’” said the report.

Fernandez and his friends tagged the shark before putting it back in the water, as state law dictates in its catch and release policy. The group also caught five blue sharks and a thresher shark, which they took home to cook, according to Newsday.
