The City of Long Beach issued the following update on the snow storm during the late 8 a.m. hour Friday:
Friday Morning Update:
This morning's main focus is for commuters, making Park Ave, Broadway, West Beech and the LIRR parking area as safe as possible. The City's snow emergency remains in effect. If you have to go out, take your time and help your neighbors.
Sanitation pickup will go forward as planned this morning. City Hall and the Rec Center are open, bus service open and running, but Friday's Child Care and Holiday Care programs have been canceled.
LIRR Weekend Schedule
The Long Island Rail Road is running on a weekend schedule, including in Long Beach.
Long Beach Bridge Open
Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford posted the following announcement about the Long Beach Bridge on her Facebook page:
"As we prepare for the storm, I want to assure our residents that Nassau
County DPW is monitoring the Michael Valenti Long Beach Bridge to make
sure that it remains passable for all vehicles, especially our emergency
vehicles," County Legislator Denise Ford said on Facebook. "The Long
Beach barrier island is still without an emergency room and we need to
make sure that the bridge is open to all vehicles. I urge all residents
to listen to our governor and county executive and stay home if
Long Beach Library
Due to the storm, the Long Beach Library will open at 11 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Friday, according to the library's website.
Child Care Programs Cancelled
All Child Care and Holiday Care programs are cancelled for today, Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 due to the winter storm. All Magnolia Senior Center Programs are cancelled as well. Please stay home and stay safe!
LBHS Team Practices Cancelled
All Long Beach High School athletic team practices scheduled for Friday have been canceled due to the snow storm, according to school district’s website.
