Colorful Caps Mural Brightens West End

More than 24,000 caps used to create art work at Maryland Ave. and West Beech.

Red, yellow, pink and other rainbow-like color combinations brighten a pocket of Long Beach after a crew of local artists drilled, hammered and mounted thousands of bottle caps to a parking lot wall in the West End on Tuesday.

Spearheading this post-Hurricane Sandy project was resident Lisa Be, who approached Long Beach schools about starting a district-wide competition among students to collect the high-density plastic caps. She spoke on Tuesday about the outcome of her efforts.

Project Vortex, an organization that uses plastic debris for creative purposes, sponsored the project at Maryland Avenue and West Beech Street.
