Feb. 22: Historical Tales, Iranian Expat Speaks, A Delicious Place For Decadence

Get the scoop on what's going on in Long Beach today.

From life-long Long Beachers reminiscing about the city of decades past, to a local Iranian expatriate talking about Mid-East unrest, to a West End restaurant-bar hosting Taco Tuesday, there’s a wide variety of activities on tap in Long Beach today.

1. A local jeweler and Iranian expatriate Max Saatchi will give a talk about his decades-long efforts to help bring regime change to his native Iran at the Long Beach Tea Party Patriots meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Beach Library.

2. Earlier at the library, the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Guardians of Ga'Hoole (PG, 91 min.) will show at 2 p.m. This movie is based on a popular children’s book about a battle to save all of “owl kind” from evil.

3. Long Beach radio personality Halftime Howie will celebrate the history of Long Beach on his show “Broadcasting on the Beach” from 8 to 9 p.m. on AM 1240 WGBB. Among his guests are several life-long Long Beach residents, including Bob Carroll, president of the Long Beach Lions Club, and Walter Searcy, the show’s videographer, will talk about Black History Month. In anticipation of tonight's show, read some of Patch's history stories on various Long Beach subjects: the North Park and President Streets neighborhoods, libraries, the railroad, an historic house and a block with many lion statues.

4. It’s Taco Tuesday at located on West Beech Street, where all tacos are $1 and Dos Equis Amber is on tap for $3.50. A one-drink minimum is required to take advantage of this deal.
