Fire Destroys Home in West End

Blaze contained within 45 minutes, fire commissioner says.

A fire destroyed one home and damaged surrounding houses in the West End of Long Beach Wednesday night.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the blaze started during the 9 p.m. hour at 100 Maryland Ave., and took about 45 minutes to contain and extinguish.

“One house was pretty much totally destroyed and three other surrounding houses had minor damage to them,” said LBFD Commissioner Scott Kemins.

Kemins said that no one was injured during the fire that is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Nassau County and Long Beach police departments.
