Fundraiser for Fallen Sanitation Worker from Long Island Goes Viral

A GoFundMe campaign to raise money in honor of Nassau County's Steven Frosch went viral and has raised more than $36,000 in just two days.

Steven was killed Saturday in a tragic sanitation accident in Queens and his story has prompted hundreds to give money in his memory.

The online fundraising campaign, which originally sought to raise $10,000 in Steven's memory, raised more than $20,000 as of Tuesday morning, climbed to $36,000 by evening, and is still climbing.

The online fundraising campaign was launched after Steven was tragically killed in a sanitation accident Saturday.

Steven, 43, of Garden City South, was killed Saturday afternoon while on the job in Maspeth. According to Newsday, he was doing maintenance work on a street sweeper when he was struck by another sweeper. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.

Steven, a father of four, quit the New York Police Department 15 years ago in favor of a "safer" job, according to NY Daily News.
