Broadcasting
on the Beach with Halftime Howie will switch its hour-long show on AM1240
WGBB to Sundays from 7 to 8 p.m. starting January. The show’s host Howie Appel
and his team have several notable shows and events lined up.
The
first big event is on Jan. 13, when the show will broadcast live from Rockville
Centre Lanes. There, bowling enthusiasts can try to pitch a perfect 300 from
6
to 11 p.m. and enjoy musical entertainment by Benoir & the Long Beach All
Stars.
On
Jan. 20 the show will broadcast live from the Martin Luther King Center in Long
Beach. “The MLK Center will talk about the big parade the following day in Long
Beach,” Appel said about the annual holiday parade in the city.
An
all-day party is planned at Hub Billiards in Island Park on Super Bowl Sunday,
Feb. 3. The radio show is set to start at 11 p.m. after the big game.
Come
Feb. 10, Halftime Howie will broadcast from the Knights of Columbus in
Lindenhurst as part of a benefit for the Knights lodge in Long Beach.
Following
a benefit
concert at Mulcahy’s in December, the radio show will return to the
same venue in Wantagh for another night of music and fundraising from 6 p.m. to
12 a.m. Feb 24.
The
show will hold a special St. Patrick’s Day broadcast from the Long Beach VFW on
March 17.
“We
will feature the dancers from the Hagen School of Irish Dance, traditional
Irish music including bagpipers and a good luck send off to our very own Robin
Lynch, who will be running in the Boston Marathon in April,” Appel said.
