An Island Park man was charged with shooting a Long Beach man in an incident outside a restaurant-bar last weekend.

According to Nassau County Police Department, Angel Martinez, 47, was at Costa Del Sol Restaurant and Bar, at 4547 Austin Blvd. in Island Park, when he approached the victim, a 36-year-old Long Beach man, and asked him to step outside at about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 12.

Once outside, Martinez shot the victim in the abdomen and fled the scene, police said.  At about 12 p.m. on Jan. 13, a male subject called the Long Beach Police Department to report that his friend was shot and was staying at his residence in Long Beach. When police officers arrived at the victim’s house, the victim told them he was shot at a restaurant-bar in Island Park and then walked home, the LBPD said.

The victim was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, where he is listed in stable condition with a non-life threatening injury.

On Tuesday, Fourth Squad detectives along with Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations responded to 313 Merritt Ave. in Wyandanch and placed Martinez under arrest without incident.

Martinez is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. NCPD said that police discovered Martinez has an open Hempstead warrant for disorderly conduct. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.

Why would someone wait over 16 hours to report that they had been shot? The only reason I can think of is that the victim himself had something to hide. Perhaps he doesn't belong in this country to begin with? Or perhaps he was a participant in a crime that led up to him being shot? Inquiring minds want to (but pretty much already) know.

Too much violence in our bars, they should be closed down. If the perp had an open Warrant, shouldn't NCPD have arrested him, before he hurt other people.

Yes. Close down all the bars. Bring back prohibition. Ban surfing and hockey. The ultimate villain is the arch fiend, Snoopy.

should have settled it like men - 10 paces and turn

This location should be closed down, prior to being "Costa Del Sol" it was "La Estrellas" (closed because of prositution), next to a check cashing place, next to a "bodega" with hardly anything on the shelves(suspicious). These locations are hang outs for the illegals. The perp is an "Island Park Man" because landlords continue to rent to them!

Tideline~NCPD didn't arrest him, because he is an illegal, and most likely gave a false address of which he did not live at when first arrested, This is one of the reasons there are so many most wanted-they can't be found until arested again and fingerprints match.

If illegals get into any troubles, they are afraid to call the police. There are hundreds of victims of domestic violence and many victims of robberies, who happened to be illegals, and nobody wants to hear their voice. Alcohol has done so much damage to our nation. I lost my best friend to a drunk driver. He was a good man, a good father and a great American. Lets be a great American and stop this cycle of violence in our communities. Surfing is great, helping others is the best.

Island Park like other Town Of Hempstead south shore areas are havens for illegals. This is why its all over in Hempstead Town. Soon Island Park will be lke Elmont, Valley Stream, Freeport, Roosevelt, Hempstead. The politicians know this and are getting as much money and benefits now before the collapse.

Why is Cantor Fizgerald only donating to the LB Public schools? What about the LB Catholic school and HALB? What a shame

DBlonde, don't say illegal. They are poor undocumented workers. You don't want to mentally traumatize them. They can get Drivers License, Vote, Health Care and Public Assistence. They have more rights than we do. There are so many Wanted walkign around out there, because our Federal, State and Local Gov'ts won't devote the resources to enforceing the laws that are on the books. We re on the path to downfall of the Roman Empire, as a growing number of people see it. Now, you won't even be able to defend yourself.
