Jan. 22: A Sketchy Exhibit, A Writer Talks, Sharpen Sewing Skills

Here's what's happening in Long Beach on Saturday.

Saturday has arrived and it’s time to kick back and relax. Why not consider one or some of the following activities and events:  

1. Long Beach Patch freelance writer Tennille-Lynn Millo will talk about opportunities to write and publish articles for today’s magazine, newspaper and web media markets starting at 2 p.m. at the Long Beach Library. Millo has written for Redbook, Parenting, Newsday and the Long Beach Herald.

2. The Long Beach High School wrestling team will compete in the East Meadow Duals at East Meadow High School starting at 9 a.m.

3. Learn to sharpen your sewing skills when the American Sewing Guild Nassau Queens Chapter gives a workshop at the library starting at 9 a.m.

4. Get the scoop on how to obtain financial aid for college from Nassau Community College Financial Aid Department staff at 10 a.m. In addition, a representative from Nassau’s Admissions Office will be present to answer questions about enrolling at the college. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register at www.suny.edu/studentevents or by calling 1-800-342-3811. 5.  Art lovers, why not head to the Nassau County Museum of Art for the exhibit Milton Avery & The End of Modernism, which looks at the work of the 20th century artist who brought the sketch —with its spontaneity, movement and fleetingness — to the status of a finished painting.
