March 10: Starbucks Turns 40, Winter Athletes Awarded, What's Your Blood Pressure?

Get the scoop on what's happening in Long Beach each weekday.

Thursday brings occasional rain and temps are expected to hit the 50s in Long Beach. Today also brings everything from sports awards to blood screenings to a 40th B-day celebration in the city:

1. Long Beach High School hosts their winter sports awards at 7 p.m. at the school. This ceremony honors athletes of note who play winter sports, including wrestling, basketball, volleyball and winter track.

2. Get a free blood pressure screening from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Long Beach Library. A nurse from the Long Beach Medical Center will be on hand.

3. Happy birthday, Starbucks! The coffee brewing company turns 40 and the celebration at the Long Beach shop on West Park Avenue runs from 2 to 5 p.m. New drinks and coffee blends will be introduced and complimentary treats come with the purchase of a drink.
