New LI Energy Chief Has a Plan for LIPA; Do You Back It?

A new call center and better communication efforts to customers among the plans in the works.

With LIPA's much maligned response to Hurricane Sandy still fresh in the minds of many Long Islanders, David Daly, the new president of PSEG-Long Island, has his work cut out for him when it comes to getting LIPA back on track.

PSEG was awarded a 10-year contract to manage LIPA in 2011 and following a transition period, the company will take over control of Long Island's electric transmission and distribution system on Jan. 1.

Daly spoke with Newsday this week regarding PSEG's plans for LIPA. Among the items:

  • Installing a new staff of 20 to 25 people to monitor and analyze how the utility handles incoming calls
  • A new automated phone system to help improve customer communication
  • An upgraded website
  • A 30-40 percent increase in the amount spent on tree trimming in the first quarter of next year
  • Better communication efforts from the company, including mass mailings describing planned improvements
Do you think PSEG can get LIPA back on track? Are you happy with its initial plans to improve service and customer satisfaction? What more can be done? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
