Long Beach Beats the Heat by Beth Canova

The summer sun beat down hard this Fourth of July weekend, but not even the 92 degree heat could stop Arts in the Plaza. The delicious smells from the food from the Farmer’s Market, visual candy of the vendor’s wares, and enticing tones from talented musicians that have become the norm for a Saturday at Kennedy Plaza lured the beach goers that passed by in waves to stop and take some time to enjoy all that Arts in the Plaza had to offer. What exactly was offered was a fun and creative way to celebrate America’s birthday.

Instead of waiting for the music to begin in the afternoon as AITP usually does, Jesse Klirsfeld entertained the plaza in the morning. After a short break, the Mike Barnett Band took over in the afternoon. Because of the unforgiving heat, many of the audience chose to forgo sitting in the chairs in front of the musician’s tent, opting instead for the cool shade beneath the trees that lined the plaza.

Did you miss out on the fun because the weather too hot to handle last Saturday? That’s okay, because Arts in the Plaza will be back same time, same place next week. Come, get creative, and cool off at Kennedy Plaza Saturday at 10am until 4pm and enjoy what so many in Long Beach have had the pleasure of experiencing at AITP.
