The Bitcoin system could present a major challenge to banks, credit card companies, wire-transfer services, etc. The Bitcoin system may lower fees and eliminate consumer fraud (from the merchant's side). It also may eliminate information theft. Bitcoin concerns applications other than money. You may not need a phone company to create a telephone number. Web searches may not need to go through Google's servers.
