Bethpage Federal Credit Union is moving into the vacancy formerly occupied by Bi-Wise Drugs in Long Beach.

The credit union, which has 26 branches across Long Island from Elmont to Riverhead, expects to open a new branch at 26 W. Park Ave. in the spring, according to a sign posted on its front window.

Bi-Wise pharmacy closed its doors in August 2012 when owner, Mitchell Matza, went to work for Rite Aid Pharmacy at Long Beach Plaza shopping center. Matza told Patch that the credit union expects to start reconstructing the 3,900-square-foot unit this month.

“I think they’ll be a good fit for Long Beach,” Matza said. “They do a lot of great things for the community.”

Bethpage Federal Credit Union was among the sponsors of the City of Long Beach’s summer ad campaign and winter “Boardwalk Lights” initiative that were aimed at bringing visitors back to the beachtown after Hurricane Sandy.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union did not return a request for comment on Tuesday.

Yes, that's what we need a boring credit union. I guess we should be grateful for what we get.
