Credit Union to Fill West Park Vacancy

Bethpage Federal plans to open new branch at former Bi-Wise Drugs.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union is moving into the vacancy formerly occupied by Bi-Wise Drugs in Long Beach.

Follow Long Beach Patch on Facebook.

The credit union, which has 26 branches across Long Island from Elmont to Riverhead, expects to open a new branch at 26 W. Park Ave. in the spring, according to a sign posted on its front window.

Bi-Wise pharmacy closed its doors in August 2012 when owner, Mitchell Matza, went to work for Rite Aid Pharmacy at Long Beach Plaza shopping center. Matza told Patch that the credit union expects to start reconstructing the 3,900-square-foot unit this month.

“I think they’ll be a good fit for Long Beach,” Matza said. “They do a lot of great things for the community.”

Bethpage Federal Credit Union was among the sponsors of the City of Long Beach’s summer ad campaign and winter “Boardwalk Lights” initiative that were aimed at bringing visitors back to the beachtown after Hurricane Sandy.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union did not return a request for comment on Tuesday.

My uncle used to be a co-owner of Bi-Wise. It's sad that independent pharmacies as well as lots of independent businesses in other industries are no longer viable against giant corporations. Consumers who will drive 10 miles to save a dollar are killing small business and the middle class along with it.

Nice job with that post - that's some solid trolling right there - can't wait for all the responses

Please pay no mind to jv. As Mr. Hamburger aptly points out, he's just fishing for outrage. I couldn't be happier Bethpage is moving in and I plan on moving my money there when they do. The NEFCU in Oceanside was just a little to far, so this is perfect! http://moveyourmoneyproject.org/

Just pointing out the facts. It's for you to decide if these facts are good or bad. Then you can choose whether or not to patronize this establishment. No need to attack me. I'm just the messenger.

Yes, that's what we need a boring credit union. I guess we should be grateful for what we get.

The Bethpage Federal Credit Union has a reputation that they give back to the community. This is a welcome new business for Long Beach.

As I pointed out and Patch censored, Bethpage Credit Union only "gives back" to radical liberal community causes. They fund homosexual activism across Long Island and in its schools. They sponsored the Huntington "gay" pride parade. So if you're a homosexual or want your school to instruct your kids to be, patronize Bethpage Credit Union. The very fact that my previous post was removed validates both the truth and their one-sided agenda.

jv, please enlighten us on how a school instructs kids to be gay. Seriously, explain.
