Premier Care Center to Open in December

A Premier Care office is expected to open in Long Beach's West End
next month.

The walk-in facility, located at a former Bank of America ATM center at 904 W. Beech St., was built during the summer and will open Dec. 15, Lauren Gandillon, director of Premier Care marketing, wrote to Patch in an email last week. Neither Premier Care nor the property owner offered additional information about the new office. A sign posted in its window indicates the center will be open seven days a week.

According to Premier Care’s website, which lists 14 offices across Long Island, its urgent care centers offer care “for life's mini emergencies” to patients of all ages, from infants to seniors, and are outfitted “with the most medically advanced equipment,” including a digital x-ray laboratory, and offer “antibiotics, intravenous fluids, and other medications when necessary.” However, people suffering from life-threatening conditions, such as heart attack or stroke symptoms, are advised to call 911 instead.

The website also notes that all Premier Care physicians “are board-certified in emergency medicine and are the same physicians that patients would be seen by in a hospital emergency room.”

Premier Care is preparing to open an office in Long Beach at a time when the city is without a hospital, as the Long Beach Medical Center remains closed after sustaining substantial damages during Hurricane Sandy. In October, South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, which is negotiating a merger with LBMC, received a $6.6 million federal grant to rebuild an urgent care center at the LBMC campus, the latest step toward renewing services at the hospital that has been rebuilt. The opening of the urgent care center is pending.
