A light blanket of snow covered Long Beach early Thursday morning, a small indication of what is to come later today and tonight.
The National Weather Service predicts that Long Island will see between 8 and 10 inches of snow, starting Thursday night, and has issued a blizzard warning for 6 p.m. in the area.
Temperatures are expected to drop Thursday night into the mid-teens, and stay below freezing into Sunday.
