Sausage Shack to Open in West End

Sausages heroes are on their way to the West End.

The Sausage Shack will open at at 951 W. Beech St., a vacancy between Tennessee Avenue and New Hampshire Street. The City Council on Tuesday granted the owner, Richard Gater, a waiver for parking requirements to open his West End business.

Gater said his shop will serve Italian sausage and pepper heroes, as well as steak sandwiches and chicken sandwiches. “Basically hot food,” he said.

The scheduled hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. seven days a week, Gater said, and he looks to hire four employees for various shifts. He expects about eight 15-minute curbside deliveries a month at his shop that he said can accommodate up to 20 people at a time.

“The business itself is not going to have tabled seating; just a counter along one wall,” he added.

Last year, a hot dog shop was proposed for the vacancy at 951 West Beech, according to the unnamed owner who addressed the council Feb. 7, 2012. The owner of the property is Artie Salamone, at 1031 W. Park Ave. in Long Beach., according to the council resolution.
