April 5: City Council Meets, LBMS Career Day, Radio for Pet-Lovers

Get the scoop on what's happening in Long Beach each weekday.

It’s Tuesday and here are five things to know about Long Beach today:

1. The Long Beach City Council will hold a regular meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Since this is the first meeting of the month, the council holds a “good and welfare” session that gives the public the opportunity to talk about any government-related issues.

2. Long Beach Middle School students will learn about many professional walks of life during Career Day today, as many men and women visit their classrooms to talk about their line of work.

3. Tonight pet-lovers will find a special treat on the airwaves. Long Beach radio personality Halftime Howie will broadcast his show live from All Creatures Veterinary Services on West Park Avenue starting at 8 p.m. Also, local Long  Beach boxer Sean Monaghan will be a guest.

4. Later today on Patch: We’ll post stories about the Long Beach Police Department’s plans to celebrate the department’s 100th anniversary at the Memorial Day parade, a tea party at the Long Beach Historical Society, and a softball game between Long Beach and MacArthur.

5. In case you missed it yesterday, Patch posted stories on city officials who are scrambling to find new facilities to hold their summer camp programs after they learned that locals schools buildings will be unavailable to use this year. We also had a story on Lido Beach residents who threaten to sue the school district over the proposed sports facility at Long Beach High School.
