April 8: April Showers, Teen Night Out and Sports

Get the scoop on what's happening in Long Beach each weekday.

Get excited - it’s almost the weekend! Here’s what you need to know about Long Beach this Friday:

1. Join the Long Beach Art League for “April Showers.” This social will provide wine and cheese while participates decorate umbrellas, one of which will be donated to the art league – for just $10!

2. Sutton Place will be hosting a concert from the band Undercover. Head down there early to indulge in a half priced drink happy hour and ladies night, featuring $5 glasses of wine and martinis.

3. Long Beach teenagers should take note – the Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking will be holding a “Teen Night Out” tonight from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Long Beach High School. This event is supposed to provide a safe, fun and alcohol free alternative to enjoy a Friday night. There will be games, food and an American Idol contest – all of which are free.

4. In the mood for some sports? Long Beach High School’s softball team will be facing off against Syosset at home at 4:15 p.m., while boys tennis will be taking on Wheatley at home at 4:15 p.m. as well. At 4:30 p.m., the varsity boys lacrosse team is playing at Long Beach Middle School against Hempstead High School. If you would prefer to enjoy sports from inside, head down to see the badminton team play against Clarke High School at home at 4:45 p.m.
