As Long Beach Rebounds, Sandy’s Impact Endures

More than eight months after Hurricane Sandy slammed Long Beach, signs of the city’s comeback are all around, from reconstruction of the 2.2-mile boardwalk to new storefronts opening. But the beach town’s landscapes has changed, made stark by rebuilt homes elevated to conform to government codes for flood zones, and the storm’s impact endures for many residents and business owners who still hope to return to their vacant homes and stores.
