Aug. 1: Los Playeros Performs, AARP Driving Course, Surf Schedule

Flip your calendars! It's the start of a new month and a new work week. And here's what you need to know about what's going on in Long Beach on Monday:

1. Looking to improve your driving skills? An AARP Mature Alive Driving Course will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Long Beach Public Library.

2. Long Beach's surfing schedule from Aug. 1 to Aug.5 allows for surfing between Lafayette Boulevard and Washington Boulevard and between Arizona Avenue and Wyoming Avenue in the West End. Check the schedule for permanent beaches, times and other information.

3. Los Playeros will be bringing the sounds of Latin jazz to National Boulevard beach at 8 p.m.

Today is the last day to pay for the first half of the City Tax without penalty, according to the City of Long Beach's calendar.
