'Beach Hubs' Planned for Sandy-Damaged Rockaway

Plans are underway to rebuild a smarter beach on Long Island's South Shore.

Approximately six miles west of Long Beach in Rockaway, New York City officials have announced that new "beach hubs" will be built along the Queens community's beach.

According to the Daily News:

The new landscape includes modernistic comfort stations, raised high off the sand to ward off future damage from raging storm waters.

The new look Rockaway beaches will include revamped "bathrooms, lifeguard facilities and concession areas," according to the same report.

The report states that work will begin on the new structures this summer.
