Memorial fundraiser to honor beloved teacher, surfer

The name of Daniel Bobis will be permanently present at the beach where he loved to surf in Long Beach.

Laurelton Boulevard beach will be renamed after Bobis, the beloved Long Beach teacher who died while surfing off the coast of Sumatra in July, in a ceremonial unveiling of a sign there at 1 p.m. Saturday, according to the Long Beach Herald.

The ceremony will be followed by a memorial fundraiser in his name at the Inn on West Beech Street from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 15.
