Construction Starts for Quiksilver Event

Workers are hammering and welding at National Boulevard beach and Foundation Block.

The lifeguard station is now being rivaled as the tallest structure on the beach. Scaffolding is rising high on the sands at National Boulevard as construction crews have broken ground on the staging areas for the Quiksilver Pro New York surfing competition that will descend on Long Beach Sept. 1.

Other signs the competition is coming are the Quiksilver banners that line the light posts on the boardwalk and the ticketbooths that are done up in the company’s black-and-white, fingerprint-like logo.

Patch was on the boardwalking late Friday afternoon taking snapshots of some of the hammering and welding that’s going on National beach and Foundation Block and decided to post them for our readers to see. More photos to come as the construction continues.
