East End To Get Iced

20 Degrees Gourmet Ice slated to fill a vacancy.

Colored ice is slated to replace colored hair at an East End vacancy.

According to the Long Beach City Council agenda for Aug. 20, a gourmet ices shop is proposed for 647½ E. Park Ave., site of the former 5 Star Hair Salon, between Neptune and Roosevelt boulevards.

The owner of the new shop is scheduled on that date to appear before the council for a hearing on an application to waive off-street parking requirements at the storefront.

A sign that reads "20 Degrees Gourmet Ice" sits in the vacant unit’s window. Gourmet Ice has five locations across Long Island and Brooklyn, according to the company’s website, which lists 27 flavored ices and states its philosophy as follows: “We find the most delicious produce to craft the best gourmet ice available. We keep it all natural - leaving out everything artificial like colors, flavors, and sweeteners. Handcrafted gourmet ice...the way it should be: Fruit, water, and a touch of sugar.”
