Story by Joseph Kellard.
The New York Legal Assistance Group is holding a free legal clinic at Lola's restaurant in Long Beach throughout Friday.
NYLAG attorneys are signing up families for 45-minute consultation slots from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The consultation is strictly for area residents who were victims of Hurricane Sandy.
NYLAG is working in conjunction with Johanna Sofield of the Long Beach Christmas Angles, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that assists families in financial crisis in the Long Beach School District. As a result of the hurricane, the Christmas Angels is focusing all its efforts on relief for residents.
Todd Kaminsky, an assistant U.S. attorney, realized there is a need for free legal services in Long Beach and contacted NYLAG to assist the Christmas Angels. NYLAG provides free legal assistance to those in need and recently received a Robinhood Foundation grant for the legal assistance.
For information on a future consultation, contact Todd Kaminsky at toddkaminsky@yahoo.com, or Johanna Sofield at Lbca@optonline.net.
