Story by Joseph Kellard.

The New York Legal Assistance Group is holding a free legal clinic at Lola's restaurant in Long Beach throughout Friday.

NYLAG attorneys are signing up families for 45-minute consultation slots from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The consultation is strictly for area residents who were victims of Hurricane Sandy.

NYLAG  is working in conjunction with Johanna Sofield of the Long Beach Christmas Angles, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that assists families in financial crisis in the Long Beach School District. As a result of the hurricane, the Christmas Angels is focusing all its efforts on relief for residents.

Todd Kaminsky, an assistant U.S. attorney, realized there is a need for free legal services in Long Beach and contacted NYLAG to assist the Christmas Angels. NYLAG provides free legal assistance to those in need and recently received a Robinhood Foundation grant for the legal assistance.

For information on a future consultation, contact Todd Kaminsky at toddkaminsky@yahoo.com, or Johanna Sofield at  Lbca@optonline.net.

We might need them as counsel to sue the LB public school district to prevent them from raising our property taxes this year. The school district has no intewntions of making cutbacks such as laying off patronage employees, eliminating sassistant principal jobs, closing the East School, getting rid of illegals, and out of district kids and the kids of the servants who work down here.

Free advice from a bunch of lawyers? It must be some kind of a plot. I think the Nassau County Bar Association did something similar as did the Long Beach Lawyers . They must be plotting something nefarious along with the surfers, that other sinister group who keep trying to fool us with their charity work. A nd oh yes I'm sure the hockey players are a part of it all..

Thank god they didn't close east school.... We need our schools, especially now more then ever since west school was destroyed. But keep up the intelligent comments. U have no clue

Close East School and have the children use tents on the beach as class rooms. Think of the savings. At night the tents can be used for sleeping by the people thrown out of The Allegria.

It is well know that 30% of the students in the LB school district are NOT legal residents of the district. MANY are not even legal residents of the United States of America. The scholl officials do all they can to hide this issue and to make anyone that complains about it appear racist. Well, now is the time to enforce the rules. DEMAND that every child produce a VALID social security card. DEMAND that every child produce a utility bill with the name of their legal guardian on it and a valid address IN TH DISTRICT. We are being robbed of MILLIONS of dollars in tax money and the school officials know it but because THEY benefit from high foreign enrollment via Special Ed and Bi-Lingual Classes in addition to higher head count for teachers to teach these young thieves, the teachers will say NOTHING.

Boozehound Joe? Sounds intellectual. U must know what you are talking about
Hamburger January 26, 2013 at 02:01 PM
Why do you have to bring Dr Scholls into the discussion? Tis the Ballad of Boozehound Joe
Tonto Hertzberg January 26, 2013 at 05:23 PM
You dont have to be in AA to know that many LB students are ripping off the taxpayers and the people that know it most are the SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS and employees. They know EXACTLY who is ripping off THOUSANDS of dollars a year from taxpayers. Im drunk know and typing on my phone from Shines and I still am making more sense than half the louts here.
Sam January 26, 2013 at 05:29 PM
Thats funny so am I.
Beachguy January 26, 2013 at 07:45 PM
Maybe Boozehound was the creep who broke into Kings. I heard all the Dr Scholls stuff was missing. Be on the lookout for someone shuffling out of Shines. He may not be worse for wear. It may just be bad feet.
