Hurricane Sandy Leaves Thousands Powerless in Long Beach

As Hurricane Sandy strikes Long Island Monday night, thousands of Long Beach residents find themselves without power.   

According to the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) storm center website, there are 8,143 out of 15,283 customers without power in the city as of 9:18 p.m. In total, 618,427 LIPA customers were without power by mid Monday afternoon.  

To report an outage to LIPA, call 1-800-490-0075 or text 'REG' to 695472 (myLIPA) and then 'OUT.' For more important emergency contacts, tips and links, click here.
