LBFD: Bus Accident Sends Child to Hospital

Collision on Long Beach Boulevard involved 12 children on camp vehicle.

A child was transported to a local hospital after a mini-bus and van collided in Long Beach on Friday morning.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department, 12 children, ages 7 to 11, were on a mini-bus when it was involved in an accident with a van at Long Beach Boulevard and East Pine Street.

“Only one child was taken to South Nassau [Communities Hospital in Oceanside] with an ankle injury,” LBFD Commissioner Scott Kemins told Patch. “All the other children refused medical aid and went on another bus and continued to camp."

Lt. Eric Cregeen, a spokesman for the Long Beach Police Department, said that all of the children’s’ parents were notified at the accident scene. Police said they didn't know the destination of the bus.

The LBPD responded with an ambulance, engine truck and heavy rescue truck, and the Island Park and Point Lookout-Lido fire departments each assisted with an ambulance, said LBFD Commissioner Scott Kemins. The bus belongs to the Five Towns-based Independent Coach Corporation.
