Sen. Charles Schumer and with Long Beach city officials spoke outside the Allegra hotel at about 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, announcing that the sewage water treatment plant is fired
up, and is now pumping water into the plant so it can be treated.
The good news, however, was followed by the announcement that residents still will not
have safe drinking water until next week.
Officials said that drinking water will not be available because the water needs to be flushed first.
Officials continued to state that sewage and water needs to be restored before electricity can be.
Senator Schumer said that he got a generator the size of a trailer for Long Beach from Caterpillar, a company located in Illinois.
