Search for Bobis Pushes Forward

Helicopter, divers find no trace of the missing surfer during the search on Tuesday in Sumatra.

The search continued in the remote West Lampung province of Sumatra on Tuesday for missing surfer and local Long Beach resident Daniel Bobis.

After a plea for assistance from Bobis’ wife, Rachel, spread far and wide, a helicopter started to search the waves where her husband was last seen. Bobis disappeared after catching a wave early Sunday morning off the coast of the Indonesian island. His board washed up on shore shortly after he was last seen.

“Rachel searched all day combing the reef, the dive team was in the water, and Brian [Lonergan] was free diving,” a friend said. “They searched where they thought he may be and he wasn't.”

Lonergan, who had been on the surfing trip with Bobis and his wife, has been diving relentlessly in search of his beloved friend.

“Please tell everyone what a hero Brian Lonergan is,” Rachel stated in a posting on the Daniel Bobis Info facebook page. “He won't stop looking and I don't know what I would do without him here."

According to friends of Bobis’ at Unsound Surf, the helicopter continued to search for him all day. Along with Rachel Bobis and Lonergan, a dive team and locals with fishing boats are helping in the mission. They added that “waves were getting pretty big again” towards the end of the day.

The family is still desperately seeking funds to assist with the search effort. Those who wish to donate can go to Paypal.com and give money to “DannyBobisFund@Gmail.com." All donations will go to the family, the search and other expanses related to locating Bobis.
