Your LIRR Commute After Sandy

There have been many challenges in the area since Hurricane Sandy struck last month, but one of the biggest has been fixing our damaged rail system.

A major issue has been the repair of two East River tunnels owned by Amtrak which the Long Island Rail Road uses to get into Manhattan.

Rep. Steve Israel, D-Huntington, held a press conference in which he said he received assurances from Amtrak that the tunnels would be repaired by Christmas week.

Earlier this week, the LIRR announced that all branches were running on a 'near-normal' schedule with the restoration of the Long Beach line.

I had a November monthly ticket. Do I get a refund on lost days and limited service? or is the MTA going to cheat me (the bus thing did not work for me since I work off peak and the busses only ran to 9pm)

@victor. I traveled from Merrick before the LIRR was running the diesel trains were running on the Long Beach line. Not as convenient, but it's not like you were actually precluded from using the LIRR for more than. Few days
