$5,000 Bethpage FCU Summer Breeze Volleyball Tournament

East End Volleyball is running the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Summer Breeze tournament on August 2-3, in Long Beach, NY, co-sponsored by Spalding.  This tournament will be the largest beach volleyball tournament on Long Island this year with the largest prize purse. 

Men’s and women’s open players will be competing for $5,000 in prize money.  On August 3, juniors will play in the Volley America Juniors Long Island Regional Championship.  Junior players will be competing for free entry to the Volley America Junior National Championship, which will be held on August 10 in Seaside Heights, NJ.  

The Bethpage FCU Summer Breeze tournament will attract players from throughout the East Coast.  Top male players include AVP pro players Mark Burik (Queens, NY) and Hudson Bates (Richmond, VA).  Volley America nationally ranked number 1 and 3 players, Greg Hunter and Mike Salak will be looking to add to their point total.  Top female players include Dana Fiume and Hilary Pavels, who just finished 9th at the AVP Milwaukee Open.  The two players are also tied for first place in Volley America Grand Prix rankings for women’s open.

This will be the 19th tournament in the 35 tournament Spalding Big Shot Volleyball series for 2014 promoted by East End Volleyball throughout the East Coast. The series awards over $75,000 cash prizes throughout the season that started February 25 in Clearwater Beach, FL. 

On Friday, August 1, Mark Burik will be holding a clinic for juniors and adults looking to improve their beach volleyball skills in Long Beach, NY.  There will be a total of three sessions.  The morning session (8 am – 11 am) will be for players ages 14-18, and will focus solely on defensive skills.  The afternoon session (1 pm – 4 pm) will also be offered to juniors aged 14-18, and will center on attack skills.  The final session (5 pm – 8 pm) will be for adults, which will also emphasize attacking and offense.  Cost is $50/session ($80 for both junior sessions). 
The tournaments are sanctioned by Volley America, the largest grass roots program in the United States. Volley America offers tournaments, clinics and leagues creating opportunities for players of all levels to improve their game.  Players of all levels will be eligible for play in the tournament sponsored by Rider Sandals. There will be divisions for intermediate and novice level players competing for merchandise prizes from 4C Totally light 2Go, Spalding, Rider Sandals, Reflekt Polarized, ZEMgear, Sprout Watches, Sports Authority, SOB Volleyball Vacations, Karch Kourt net systems, Dig Magazine, Sportime, Horry County, Spike Key, Volley America and South Shore Outdoors.
