Long Beach Path to Recovery, Rebuilding Post Hurricane Sandy Hosted by Oceansafe

LONG BEACH, NY, February 6, 2013 - A special community forum hosted by Oceansafe, Inc. was recently held at the Long Beach Catholic Regional School gymnasium for Long Beach and Island Park residents. The event provided attendees with information and strategies about rebuilding their homes, new efficient and hurricane resistant building materials, navigating insurance challenges and mortgage financing for rebuilding. Approximately half of the 80 people in attendance affected by Sandy have not yet returned to their homes.

The forum was created to help residents of the Long Beach and surrounding communities who are still struggling to rebuild their homes and lives. The event provided information and guidance for a path to recovery and for preparing for future disasters.

Residents’ questions were answered after presentations were made by experts in the field of durable and disaster recovery housing. Speakers included Joseph Basilice, Oceansafe Inc.; John Barrows, Performance Path Solutions; Dough O’Grady, architect; Denz Solen, Schneider Engineering; and Kather Soloman, Balance Loss Consultants, an insurance public adjuster from New Orleans who has worked in hurricane ravaged areas and is experienced in post hurricane insurance claims.

“Oceansafe is experienced in rebuilding after disasters such as Sandy. We have been working in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. This forum in Long Beach was initiated to provide information to residents about materials and best practices for not just rebuilding but for rebuilding smarter. Rebuilding after a disaster is difficult and we want to do a better job than the job that was done in the south after Katrina. We want to equip residents with useful information that will prepare them for the future. We have to start now to build smarter and better,” said Joseph Basilice, Vice President of Oceansafe Inc.
