Photos: Hundreds of Volunteers Help Beautify Long Beach

Local and national sponsors take part in weekend cleanup through the city.

Hundreds of volunteers were spotted in Long Beach throughout the weekend, cleaning up the streets and canals and planting flowers in an effort to help revitalized the city that took a heavy blow during Hurricane Sandy in October.

The City of Long Beach spearheaded the initiative, dubbed the “Long Beach Comeback Crew,” held from Friday to Sunday. The cleanup crews consisted of volunteers from Long Beach and a mix of local and national sponsors, including Looks Great Services, Home Depot, Autumn Leaf Landscape Design, Starbucks Coffee, Viacom, The Green Project of Long Island, New York Islanders, Long Beach International Film Festival, LaMay & Sons, Inc., Crossfit, Active Life, Swingbelly's BBQ, Sugo, and others.

“The weekend-long event focused on community beautification projects, such as landscape and design efforts and street cleanup,” reads a report about the cleanup on the city’s website. “Hundreds of residents and visitors joined us in revitalizing Long Beach one block at a time.”
